(Click here to return to the artist's work.) Alan Flood studied at Blackburn School of Art and at the School of Fine Art, Leeds Polytechnic. After a successful career as an illustrator he went back to painting in 1987. He is an eclectic painter whose subjects range from portrait figure compositions to still life, interiors, landscapes and mixed media pieces. Some of the more recent work draws on the ancient tradition of religious icon painting using a mixture of materials such as paint, lead, plaster and gold leaf. Portraits have included the Russian violinist Marat Bisengaliev, the conductor Paul Daniel, Sir Ernest Hall OBE, the guitarist John Renbourn, Jane Tomlinson and Prue Leith. His Beckett Metamorphosis, a set of six drypoint portraits of the dramatist and novelist Samul Beckett, was published in 1992.
