Michael Alford was born in 1958 and grew up in England and Germany. After gaining a degree in modern Arabic and Spanish at the University of Durham, he trained at the Slade School and Chelsea School of Art before launching a successful career as a muralist and figurative painter, best known for his closely observed and sensitive evocations of contemporary life.
Taking the human form as its central subject, Michael's varied body of work includes portraits, nudes and groups of figures. His acclaimed land and cityscapes provide a context for exploring the way figures interact with natural and manmade environments.
Michael's paintings and murals are widely collected and can be found in public and private collections worldwide. His clients include Trust House Forte, Claridge's Hotel and the Royal Family of Saudi Arabia. He is also regularly commissioned as a portraitist of solo subjects and groups and in 2010, he accompanied the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards to Afghanistan as an official war artist.
