The sense of place and personal historical memory have always been intrinsic to Judith’s practice.
In her new body of work she realigns these key themes from the wide openness of landscapes to the
intimate setting of her own home. As viewers we are invited to become ‘watchers’, we encounter figures
caught in the reflection of a mirror or moving between rooms, tightly framed by a landscape of domesticity.
Echoing her background in graphic design, and working from direct observation, Judith uses drawing to inquire
into the compositional forces of the painting. Softer seated scenes are contrasted by faceted doorways that form axes
around which the figures navigate, their postures and movements suggesting and revealing unspoken narratives.
Judith Green was born in London and lives and works in Cornwall. She studied at Kingston School of Art and the Slade School of Fine Art.
Following a successful career as an Art Director, in 1984 she co-founded the international award winning Design Consultancy, The Green House. In 2000 Judith made the decision to relinquish her full time design career to focus on painting.
She was awarded a place in 2000 on The Drawing MA Program at The Prince's Drawing School, and later went on to complete a Founder’s portrait of Mr.J.Whittaker CBE for the school in 2008, now in HRH The Prince of Wales’ private collection.
